PETER DUKES ABOUT

Life and contacts

Peter Dukes is a visual and media artist, poet, coder, educator, and academic.

He trained in Fine Art at Central St Martins and Royal College of Art, and completed doctoral research supervised by Ahren Warner and Eleanor Morgan at Loughborough University, exploring authorial presence and intent in a material and algorithmic poetic practice. He teaches at University of Westminster.

His practice is located in the awkward gaps between visual and media arts, and poetry. The work explores authorial presence, agency, lyric affect, and material form, with particular focus on the slippage between voice and authenticity in a human-robopoet amalgam that opens up to 'writing like a loser'.

Artworks have been exhibited at Milch (London), Danielle Arnaud, South London Gallery, Pitzhanger Manor, Abbot Hall Art Gallery, 2yK Gallerie (Berlin) and others. He has had work in Magma, Long Poem Magazine, The New River, Poetrishy, and Shearsman Magazine, and was an award winner in the 2017 Basil Bunting Poetry Competition.
